Overview:
There are
many reasons why BeyondTV.org is being launched as a non-profit
project. We share the goals of a large part of the anti-capitalist
movement. Profit motive is ultimately divisive. We are going
to be working with a large range of partners and we feel that
the lack of financial incentive encourages partners to give
us their product free for non-commercial distribution.
We
need funding to cover certain internet server costs, office
space and promotion of the internet site for the period
it takes to set up the infrastructure of the Beyond TV website
and network of partners. We also need funding to train our
campaign partners and provide some part time wages for some
core staff in the early stages of the project.

Are
you a potential Funder?
Our
funders come from the following targeted groups. We are
in the first stage of funding for core costs [see Word Document
of proposal here]. We have received equipment from music
artists and office space from a local community group.
Socially conscious
businesses; In the past undercurrents has received
funding from socially conscious businesses who have seen
the positive social value in our work. We hope that we will
be able to interest such businesses in funding the launch
of Beyond TV.
Individuals:
Especially those involved in Media or the Internet who are
likely to be aware of the limitations imposed by corporate
sponsorship and therefore see our project as especially
valuable.
Music artists:
We are keen to continue the collaborations we have pursued
with undercurrents and recording artists. We are able to
use our experience in video projects to video collaborations
for promotional video and stage projections.
Funding for media
community projects: We will be applying for funding
from various funders for promotion and production help of
video features on community based projects.

The
Future:
We
would like to become independent of funders. Hopefully we
will be able to pay for hosting by reselling our Internet
space and services to others. A subscription-based membership
in return for a CDRom of our content may also be a future
possibility. Tie -ins of CD releases of Music and Multimedia
are a possible earner. We're also interested in talking
to print magasines who might want to include a CDRom of
our features as part of their publications.
