One of the major problems with Real Media is that is is a big company
trying to take your money off you. So they don't make it super easy to get
the Free Version of their player. And the latest Version doesn't work on
older machines. But help is at hand.
You you can down load a free version of Real Player - click here on the real image
and treat it like a game. Keep looking for the small print saying FREE Real Player.
You need to find it twice and then you get your prize!
There
are loads of different generation of Real Player - Some
users have found that the older versions are the only versions
that will work on their systems. Download a free player
that is appropriate for your computer's capabilities at
the Real
Player Archives page.
Watching DiVx or other compressed Avis:
If the video file you are trying to watch has a *.avi extension and it doesn't play.
It is likely that you don't have the right "codec" to watch it. Your player may even say
"attempting to download codec". If it fails try to see if the place you downloaded it from
tells you what codec the file is encoded with.
If you haven't download the DivX codec then you'll need to do that. You can get it
from the free codecs site.

(Link to http://www.divx.com/divx/)
If the codec is not Divx then there are many other ones out there.
Use a site like free codecs
for lots of useful
information about other codex like Xvid and
On Vp3 codec.
